Chris Carrier, cash crop tractor marketing manager with New Holland, takes viewers for a test drive of the new T7 Series tractor model. The tractor features a continuously variable transmission (CVT), which, according to New Holland, operates as easily as driving a car with an infinite range of speeds. Also featured is an auto-guidance system that lets the tractor drive itself.
Wow, with that cool joystick and electronic screen, I wasn’t sure if he was driving a tractor or flying an airplane. That’s quite an innovative steering wheel for a tractor, and it looks quite intuitive to use as well. This is a great example of how slight tweaks of auto parts with the objective of meeting the needs of the market can lead to great ideas. I wonder if a similar concept can be applied to sedans or limousines? Probably not, but then again, who would have thought driving a tractor using a joystick is feasible?
