Case IH Magnum 370
SPECS
Model: Magnum 370 CVT, 367 engine hp (PTO hp to be announced)
Engine: 18.7-liter Case IH FPT engine equipped with Tier 4A-compliant SCR
Transmission: Case IH CVT
Hitch lift capacity: 19,450 lbs.
Wheelbase: 124 in.
Suggested list price: To be determined
Last fall, Case IH gave a sneak preview of the new Magnum 370 CVT, which ties New Holland’s new T8.420 for being the highest-horsepower MFWD tractor on the market at 419 maximum boosted engine hp. The company also announced it will offer its continuously variable transmission (CVT) as an option across the Magnum Series, allowing operators to drive from 0 to 30 mph without having to manually shift.
The Magnum 370 CVT is now the largest in the Magnum lineup, which previously topped out at 290 PTO hp. Built with a heavy-duty frame, heavier final drive and rear axle assembly, the new addition is designed to deliver power to the ground with larger row-crop implements such as planters, toolbars and strip-till rigs.
An 8.7-liter Case IH FPT engine is equipped with SCR technology to meet Interim Tier 4 emissions standards. Case IH says SCR technology provides for better fuel efficiency and lower operating costs than previous Tier 3 engines provided. The Magnum 370 will be available in early 2013. New Holland T8.420
SPECS
Model: T8.420, 360 PTO hp
Engine: 9-liter New Holland by FPT engine
Transmission: AutoCommand CVT
Hydraulics: 42.5 or 72.3 gpm
Wheelbase: 136 in. (11 ft. 4 in.)
Glass area: 68.5 sq. ft.
Suggested list price: $316,241The new T8.420, part of New Holland’s T8 Series launched in 2010, is tying the Case IH Magnum 370 CVT for the title of the highest-power front-wheel-assist tractor in the industry. Coming in at 419 boosted engine hp, this new model is in the same horsepower league as some of the largest 4-wd tractors.
The tractor comes with the company’s High Efficiency AutoCommand CVT, now available in all T8 Series models. This is a larger version of the transmission used in New Holland’s T7 Series tractors.
The T8.420 has a 136-in. (11-ft. 4-in.) wheelbase, which the company claims is the longest in the industry.
The long wheelbase, combined with a sculpted hood and frame, provides tight turning performance for planting, transporting grain carts and other row-crop applications, the company says. The long wheelbase also provides improved ballasting capability. “Saddle” front axle suspension provides for a 61% increase in suspended load capacity and a 31% reduction in cab bounce for excellent ride and stability in field or road travel, even with heavy 3-pt.-hitch-mounted equipment. T8 Series tractors feature fuel-efficient Tier 4 ECOBlue SCR engine technology. For more information, visit www.newholland.com/na.

The company broke the record on available cab room, with 20% more space and 14% more window glass than previous models. The glass, measuring 85.9 sq. ft., offers a panoramic view and is curved to keep sound levels down.
The larger cab allows for an optional high-definition, 7-in. display screen that controls the Versatile Precision Ag GPS system. These tractors are designed for everything from planting and tillage to baling and loader work. A 7.4-liter AGCO Power diesel engine, equipped with e3 selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology, meets Interim Tier 4 emissions standards. The 114-gal. diesel fuel tank and an 11-gal. diesel exhaust fluid tank reduce time between fills.

Models: 4 models, 170 to 225 engine hp (140 to 180 PTO hp)
Engine: 6.6- or 7.4-liter AGCO Power 6-cyl. engines with Generation 2 e3 SCR technology
Transmission: TechStar CVT or an AutoPower VI (partial-powershift) transmission
Hydraulics: 29 gpm standard; 39 gpm optional
Hitch lift capacity: 12,500 lbs. for AutoPower VI models; 11,500 lbs. with TechStar Wheelbase: 117 in. (117.8 in. on MT585D)
Glass area: 61 sq. ft.
Base list price: $137,153 to $159,864The new Challenger MT500D Series tractors share the same basic design with tractors in the Massey Ferguson 7600 Series but have a more upscaled base configuration. Standard features include a TechStar CVT transmission with Power Management and OptiRide Plus hydraulic cab suspension.
Four redesigned models from 170 to 225 engine hp are equipped with 6.6- or 7.4-liter AGCO Power 6-cyl. engines with e3 SCR technology to meet Interim Tier 4 emissions requirements. Challenger says SCR technology allows the engines to run better, stay cooler and last longer.
Cabs have been revamped and now share the same design found on MT600D and MT600C Series cabs, with a cleaner six-post construction for panoramic visibility, and a curved rear window to allow for a three-quarter view in back. A new feature called OptiRide Plus hydraulic cab suspension works with an air-suspended seat to control bounce, rolling and pitching for a smoother ride. The suspension system consists of an electronic control unit that relays leveling information to hydraulic cylinders and automatically adjusts the tension.
The cab comes prewired for autosteering and a new telemetry system called AgCommand that lets you remotely monitor your vehicle fleet. For more information, contact your local Challenger dealer or visit www.challenger-ag.com.
This year, because of new engine requirements, buyers will see many new high-horsepower tractors on the market.
Nothing like a deadline to spur a flood of activity in the tractor industry. Last month, manufacturers of tractors with 174+ hp were required to virtually obliterate the smoke in engine exhaust. This stringent requirement, called Interim Tier 4, has required a new generation of engines equipped with advanced emissions-control technology.
To make the engine overhauls worth their salt, manufacturers have revamped their lineups and added new features that improve ride, drive and vehicle performance. Features include cab suspension, clutchless transmissions, power management systems, multi-function joysticks, touch-screen display terminals and factory-installed remote monitoring systems.
Here’s a look at the new, cleaner-burning, high-horsepower row-crop and 4-wd tractors for 2012.
