New models from John Deere gather mown crops into windrows in less time.

Three new rakes from John Deere let you windrow mown hay quickly and in a style that fits your crop demands and budget.

Wheel rakes. Looking for an economical way to rake a lot of hay in a hurry? Check out the new ground-driven John Deere 702 and 704 wheel rakes. This type of rake has been especially popular with cow/calf operators who may have limited manpower and want high capacity at an economical price, according to Doug Stogdill of John Deere's hay and forage line marketing department.

Choose between carted or pull-type wheel rakes. Model 702 Carted-Style, available in 8- and 10-wheel configurations, is an economical way to rake two windrows together or gather a tedded or mown crop into windrows. Raking wheels are mounted on arms that pivot to follow ground contours. Either side of the rake can be suspended if you want to turn a single windrow. Suggested list price: $2,778 to $3,161.

Model 704 Pull-Type comes in 10-, 12- or 14-wheel configurations to achieve greater raking widths. Each raking wheel is independently suspended to follow ground contours, and raking width is hydraulically adjustable. Suggested list price: $5,364 to $7,184.

Twin rake. Deere's 705 Twin Rake is a large-capacity rake that is hydraulically driven. Like the 700 Twin Rake it replaces, the 705 gathers cut hay in 9-, 12-, 14- or 16-ft. swaths. It also features hydraulic motors that drive each basket and keep the basket speed independent of the ground speed to accommodate varying crop conditions.

But unlike its predecessor, the new model features hydraulic windrow width adjustments as standard. This allows you to change windrow width from 3 to 6 ft. from the tractor seat to match your harvesting requirements. An adjustable tooth pitch lets you adapt the shape and density of windrows to varying speeds and hay conditions. Suggested list price: $11,750.
