Gentle grain drying

Heated air blowing through a unique system of vents and ducts dries wet grain in an even, gentle manner without high temperatures and screens. Designed for all types of grain, including value-enhanced varieties, this line of grain dryers from NECO minimizes kernel damage.

The continuous-flow, portable dryer features 30-in. columns of grain with vents for heated air to enter. The grain tumbles around the vents, which dries the kernels in the process. As the grain drops to the lower levels of the dryer, baffles may be adjusted to allow cool air to lower the grain temperature. The drying temperature can run at 120 to 130. The larger columns hold more grain than typical 12-in.-column dryers, allowing the dryer to hold the grain longer, yet dry just as quickly.

The NECO dryer features an electronic sensor that measures the moisture content of the grain as it flows through the dryer. The sensor automatically slows down or speeds up the rate that the grain is discharged from the dryer. Plus, the dryer is much quieter than other dryers, according to the manufacturer.

NECO offers 14 different dryer models, ranging in price from $32,000 for the D1240 to $170,000 for the model D2420. Contact NECO, Dept. FIN, 9364 N. 45th St., Omaha, NE 68112, 800/367-6208.

A new power sweep designed to move more easily through grain is on the market from Hutchinson/Mayrath. The sweep features a reduction wheel at the end to halt wheel spinning. This helps the sweep move better. Standard on the sweep is 7-gauge flighting. The sweep comes as a complete kit, except for the power unit, for easy installation.

The sweep is available in 6-, 8- and 10-in. models that will fit up to a 48-ft.-dia. bin. Suggested list price for an 8-in. power sweep in a 36-ft. bin (without power unit) is $2,035. Contact Hutchinson/Mayrath, Dept. FIN, Box 629, Clay Center, KS 67432, 800/523-6993.

New grain transfer

When three-phase power is not available for your grain-moving equipment, DMC's TransFer Twin will work. The new option uses two 7 1/2-hp motors instead of one 15-hp motor to push grain through tubing on your bin storage site. The TransFer Twin is available in 4-, 5- and 6-in.-dia. sizes. It comes on a skid with a dual motor box, outlet extension, blower pulley, twin motor shield and belts. Price: about $550. Contact DMC, Dept. FIN, 1600 12th St. N.E., Mason City, IA 50401, 515/423-6182.
