High-tech, self-propelled 4940 sprayer from John Deere

The new John Deere 4940 self-propelled sprayer features automatic control of up to eleven sections on a 120-ft. boom through Deere’s Swath Control Pro. Deere is introducing the new sprayer as their most advanced applicator for the 2011-2012 spraying season. Suggested retail price for a 120-ft. boom model is $374,194.

The 4940 sprayer is equipped a 1,200-gal. tank that features a Direct Injection Ready system to keep it clean. As a result, growers can change solutions quicker and the sprayer can carry up to 235 gal. of extra product. The tank can be filled in 3 min. with the LoadCommand feature.

Crop applications may be controlled and documented through a GreenStar 3 2630 display. Boom widths from 90 to 120 ft. are available.

The sprayer is powered by an interim Tier 4 PowerTech Plus turbocharged engine with 340 hp. Its four-wheel, hydrostatic drive enables a maximum application speed of 25 mph and empty transport speed of 35 mph. The new sprayer offers 50-in. of crop clearance, a 300-cu.-ft. drybox spreader, and JDLink service.
