Soybean rust discovery

Asian soybean rust has been found in southern Illinois but does not pose a threat to this year’s soybean crop, according to the Illinois Department of Agriculture. University of Illinois plant pathologist Suzanne Bissonnette says growers have no need to advance their crop protection because their crops should be safe from infection. Soybean rust had already been found in eight counties in Kentucky next to the infected Illinois area, so the finding did not surprise officials.
