Droppable Laptop

Nov 1, 2006 12:00 PM

Panasonic's new business-rugged Toughbook notebook computer line is designed for maximum reliability and rough handling — including a drop from a foot off the ground. Three new models — the W5, T5 and Y5 — have magnesium alloy cases, flexible internal connectors and shock-mounted removable hard drives. Features include Intel Core Solo processors, integrated wireless capability, 60-gigabyte hard drives and 12.1- or 14.1-in. screens. The Y5 model, available in December, has an innovative “spill-through” keyboard designed to reduce risk of damage from liquids. Battery life ranges from 6 to 10 hrs., depending on the model.

Suggested retail prices range from $1,899 to $2,199. Contact Panasonic Corp. of North America, One Panasonic Way, Secaucus, NJ 07094, 800/211-7262, visit www.panasonic.com/toughbook or www.freeproductinfo.net/fin, or circle 182.
