Feb 1, 2006 12:00 PM

THE SCOUT universal wireless interface (shown in the photo) from Ranger ID provides tough, reliable, portable wireless communication that can be adapted to almost any electronic identification reader and/or computer combination. It provides wireless connectivity over a distance of 300 ft. The Scout eliminates the need for a tethered computer that is exposed to severe field conditions. It also frees the animal handler to work more directly with the livestock. No software is required at the reader or computer end of the system. The basic Scout model (Scout B) offers an internal battery pack for powering the wireless and most external readers for up to 10 continuous hours. The Scout comes in a variety of configurations that allow external power from AC, 5v DC, 6v DC, 9v DC, 12v DC, and 24v DC power sources. Price of the Scout B is $675.

The Ranch-Hand is a portable, wireless pole reader designed for identifying animals that are confined within corrals, alleyways or holding pens. The user can detect electronic identification tags up to 8½ ft. away. The Ranch-Hand can transmit tag information to a computer up to 300 ft. away. Price of the basic Ranch-Hand system is $1,495.

The Rancher II can be used as a stationary or mobile system for automatic livestock scanning. The system features single- or dual-panel operation. It provides onboard wireless capability and built-in AC, DC or solar-powered operation. A stick reader also can be plugged in for portable reader applications. Price of the Rancher II is $5,595.
