Designer laptops

Mar 1, 2008 12:00 PM

Lenovo's New IdeaPad laptop computers come in textured black, blue or red, depending on the model you choose. Designed to complement Lenovo's ThinkPad business line, IdeaPad computers are geared for consumers who are attracted to such technologies as facial recognition security software, touch-sensitive control surfaces, high-end sound systems, frameless screens and stylized covers. The laptops have plenty of processing power, too.

The IdeaPad Y710, which has a smooth blue finish, has a 17-in. wide-screen LCD and sells for $1,199 for a base model. The IdeaPad Y510 has a 15.4-in. wide-screen LCD, a black textured linen-like cover and a starting price of $799. If you prefer a textured red aluminum alloy cover, you'll have to wait until April, when the IdeaPad U110 ultra-portable, 11-in. wide-screen model will be available. Pricing for that model hasn't been announced.
