It's February, and that means it's time for the National Farm Machinery Show, held February 11 through 14 in Louisville, KY. This massive indoor show spells vacation for many Midwestern growers who have grown weary of winter.

This year, you might hesitate to make the trek to the NFMS because of the poor economy. I say you should go anyway because it's just as important to be there in bad times as in good times. Why?

First, the show has 27 acres of exhibits. All the latest electronics from assisted steering to by-the-nozzle sprayer controls will be displayed. You're bound to find something that will help you farm more profitably.

Second, you can comparison shop for future buys. Manufacturers send their top people to the show, and they can answer any of your questions about their products.

Third, the NFMS is like a coffee shop on steroids. You can mingle over coffee and food with thousands of other farmers who all want to talk. To make this happen, several acres of tables and chairs are provided.

And last, you can attend the new Farm Industry News seminars, where company experts will explain the new technologies on their latest equipment. The seminars are:

“New row-crop planter technology,” Feb. 11, 4:00 p.m.

“New row-crop combine technology,” Feb. 12, 1:00 p.m.

“New sprayer technology,” Feb. 12, 2:30 p.m.
