Eyebrow saver

If you don't like the smell of singed hair, check out the Dual-Guard Torch. An in-head flash arrester is coupled with three-tube construction that keeps gases separate until they mix in the head. The new design stops flashbacks in the head of the torch, reducing weight and bulk while helping protect the operator from injury.

Configurations include 75°, 90° and 180° head angles and standard lengths from 17 to 48 in. Large-diameter, heavy-wall stainless tubes enable high-volume gas flow with the capacity to cut steel up to 24 in. thick. A forged manganese bronze “hammer-style” head reduces warping from heat. Cutting tips can be changed by hand.

Price: $365. Contact Smith Equipment, c/o Inquiry Intelligence Systems, Attn.: Marcia, Dept. FIN, 18 N. Central Ave., O'Fallon, MO 63366, 800/843-7912, visit www.SmithEquipment.com or www.freeproductinfo. net/fin.

The plugs are available in more than 500 sizes and come in a standard, compact or speed click design. The system can be used to gravity drain or can be attached to a suction system.

Standard hose length is 12 in., but all lengths of hose are available. Retail price ranges from $30 to $42, depending on design and size. Contact Femco U.S.A., Dept. FIN, Pembina, ND 58271, 888/466-7745, visit www.drainplug.com or www.freeproductinfo.net/fin.

Concrete patch

Eco-Crete is a high-strength mortar for patching and overlaying worn concrete surfaces. The nonshrink mortar withstands freeze/thaw cycles and will develop compressive strengths of 7,000 to 8,000 lbs. (Typical concrete has about 3,000 lbs. compressive strength, and common repair mortars have about 1,000 to 1,500 lbs.) The product can be used for patching and overlaying concrete in tough wear areas such as hog barns, dairy barns, industrial plant floors and walls.

Price: $23 for a 50-lb. bag and $34 for a 50-lb. pail. Typical overlays and repairs run from $0.40 to $0.90/sq. ft. Contact Vanberg Specialized Coatings, Dept. FIN, Box 19414, Lenexa, KS 66285-9414, 800/874-0631, visit www.vanbergcoatings.com or www.freeproductinfo.net/fin.

Hex nut holder

These hex nut wrenches from Bondhus each have a special button that “snaps” into the nut head and holds the nut onto the wrench tip. This design eliminates the irritation of dropped screws, without the use of a magnetized tip.

ProHold wrenches come in a variety of sizes and configurations. The 13-piece L-wrench set sells for about $25.50. Contact Bondhus Corp., Dept. FIN, Box 660, Monticello, MN 55362, 800/328-8310, visit www.bondhus.com or www.freeproductinfo.net/fin.

New buildings with tough frames

Pro-Tec Engineered Buildings use a solid web frame design with hot-dipped, 2.5-in., 14-gauge galvanized steel tubing. The frame is rated to withstand winds up to 90 mph. The ratchet that stretches the fabric cover is mounted on the base of the truss, and the plate is anchor-bolted into the concrete for a snug fit around the base of the building. Cross purlins are positioned at each coupler plate to aid truss alignment and integrity. Heavy steel coupler plates are bolted to connect each section to the next. The polyethylene fabric cover is available in either 10.5- or 12.5-oz. weight and a variety of selections and colors. Covers are sewn and welded into one continuous layer.

Prices range from $2/sq. ft. for “pony wall” single-tube construction on posts, to $3.75/sq. ft. for truss leg construction on cement pylons. Buildings are available in 42- to 70-ft. widths in any length. Available leg heights are 6, 8 and 10 ft. Contact Sioux Steel Co., Dept.
