Metric or standard? No more guessing

Metrinch offers ratchet, open- and box-end wrench and socket sets that accept both metric and standard fasteners. Each tool's wall drive is contoured for maximum grip and minimal damage to fasteners. Ratchets feature a wobble extension bar to perform at 15 degrees angles.

One of our Team FIN members, Scott McPheeters, is working with the company to design kits specifically for tractor or combine maintenance. He says they want to get exactly what a farmer needs for engine maintenance, with as few extra pieces as possible.

The tools fit in a nylon pouch that folds out when a tool is needed. "That way nothing falls out so you aren't dropping or losing tools," McPheeters says. Price: not available at press time. A perfect match

If you do a lot of construction, welding and bearing replacement around the farm, you'll find this contour gauge handy for making patterns or templates of odd-shaped parts. The idea for Arco Products' Contour Gage isn't new; what is new is that the Gage can be lengthened.

Each Gage is 6 in. long, and with a supplied connecting plate and one or more gauges, you can make a template as long as you need. To take a contour, simply hold the center bar of the Gage against a flat surface. Make sure all wires are even and positioned wide enough for the deepest point of the contour to be copied. Press the gauge against the contour and you have an exact pattern. Price: $8. Contact Arco Products Corp., Dept. FIN, 110 W. Sheffield Ave., Englewood, NJ 07631, 201/567-7220.

Glass abrasive

Hand sanding, rust removal and scouring just got easier with Earthstone's new abrasive blocks of recycled glass.

In testing, the blocks let off only a very fine powder that was easy to clean up. And unlike when using sandpaper, there wasn't even much paint, metal or wood residue. QuickSand can replace medium to coarse sandpaper to remove paint, varnish, wax and almost any other coating to strip, sand and feather most surfaces, according to the company.

The company uses glass headed for landfills and "bakes" it with a foaming agent. The result is a block that feels like hard Styrofoam and is nonabrasive to the touch.

The company also offers RustAway to remove rust, corrosion and paint from metal surfaces to ready them for paint, and Super Scour to clean glass, enamel and stainless steel. All of the blocks work wet or dry, are chemical-free, won't clog or tear and conform to any shape or contour. Contact Earthstone International Ltd., Dept. Pristine fuel filling

Keep water, dirt and debris out of your fuel line with Mr. Funnel, a new screened fuel-filter funnel. The screen inside the funnel is coated with Teflon and can filter water and solids down to .005 in. while you refuel (or drain) gasoline, diesel or kerosene. Water collects in a built-in sump, and dirt stays in the funnel while the cleaned fuel flows into your tank, according to Roger Patch, owner of Smart Tech.

It also would work great as a diagnostic tool: You can drain some fuel out of your combine or other machine if problems arise to check for water in the fuel line. If you fuel machines out in the elements, the chance of water mixing in with the fuel is high. This funnel can help eliminate the problem.

The funnel comes in three sizes. A large one made exclusively for tractors filters 5 gal./min. and costs $30. Contact Smart Tech LLC, Dept. FIN, 23745 Immelman Circle, Chugiak, AK 99567, 800/972-1550.
