Bayer CropScience purchases Hornbeck Seed Company

Bayer CropScience announced plans to purchase the Arkansas-based Hornbeck Seed Company. The purchase will strengthen Bayer CropScience's soybean business in value-added seeds and traits.

Bayer CropScience is strengthening its position in soybean breeding with the purchase of Hornbeck Seed Company. Bayer made the announcement March 23. Hornbeck is a privately held seed company that sells soybean germplasm along with breeding for wheat and rice. The company is located in DeWitt, AK, and has supplied seed mostly to the South.

A news release from Bayer CropScience states that the upcoming purchase of Hornbeck will help Bayer meet the needs of southern soybean growers in particular. The Hornbeck soybean germplasm base and breeding program will be used to commercialize Bayer’s proprietary traits, including herbicide-tolerance and insect- and nematode-resistance traits.

“Soybean is a strategically important crop for Bayer CropScience, and this acquisition is an important first step towards realizing a fully integrated soybean business,” stated Sandra E. Peterson, Chairman of the Board of Management at Bayer CropScience, in a news release.

Previous seed-related purchases by Bayer CropScience include Stoneville Pedigreed Seed in 2007 and Athenix Corp. in 2009. The company also entered a collaboration with M.S. Technologies in 2007.

For what is worth, security measures in these big companies are taken more and more seriously. Almost all employees have a employer identification number, even CEO and founders, because leaking information outside the company is more restrained that way.

Since they have purchased the seed company it will definitely strengthen their position in the market. There has been a considerable growth in this market in the last few years. The same holds true for garden supplies segment, since I have a vegetable garden I always keep exploring stores in search of good seeds, plants, fertilizers. Last week I have also bought few bonsai tools for planting bonsai trees in my garden.

It's stories like this one that make me want to go to http://innoviacmc.com/ and read as much as I can on business advice, for me and my family. I used to think that stories like these were only in movies, turns out life is sometimes a lot stranger than fiction.

The technology platform has been developed in association with the UK-based Healthcare at Home. I read on http://www.globalcheckrecovery.com/ that all the nursing and support staff are given a computer or tablet each, which can store critical data on patients and transmit these to the company's back-end team and the treating doctors.
