Jury finds Pioneer owes Monsanto A U.S. district court jury in St. Louis unanimously found that Pioneer Hi-Bred International breached a 1993 contract that licensed Monsanto's gene technology used in YieldGard Bt corn. The two companies have agreed that Pioneer's future sales of YieldGard corn will be subject to a royalty paid to Monsanto so growers can have access to Monsanto's technology in the hybrids of their choice.

Dow buys Cargill Seeds Dow's subsidiary Mycogen Seeds will acquire the assets of Cargill Hybrid Seeds to create a larger and more efficient platform to launch biotechnology products. The purchase, which includes most seed research, production and distribution assets, makes Mycogen the third largest U.S. seed corn producer.

Wheat brown bagger caught AgriPro Wheat received a court-ordered cash settlement and an injunction against a Texas seed supplier for illegally selling AgriPro wheat seed, a violation of the Plant Variety Protection Act. B&B Farm Industries, Spearman, TX, is now prohibited from marketing any beardless wheat seed for reproductive purposes as Variety Not Stated (VNS) until April 2011.
