RUST WARNING

IOWA STATE University (ISU) plant pathologist X.V. Yang is creating an early warning system for soybean rust. He received $389,000 to coordinate sentinel soybean plots in 20 states. Researchers in each state will plant 20 sites of early-maturing soybeans in 30-sq.-ft. plots. The plots will be intensively scouted. The North Central Soybean Research Program and the United Soybean Board is funding the two-year project.
