John Deere today launches new 7R Series row crop tractors rated from 200 to 280 engine hp.
After three months of teasers, John Deere today launched its new 7R series row-crop tractors for model year 2011-12. Described as “part row-crop tractor, part utility tractor,” the five new models in the series combine features found in the larger 8R series tractors launched in 2009 (http://bit.ly/iQoQXh), but in a lower-range package rated from 200 to 280 engine hp.
One of the features carried over from the 8R series is the CommandView II cab. It’s equipped with electronic steering, a video-capable touch-screen display, knob-style controls, adjustable seat, and plenty of extra storage space. Visibility also is improved for a clear view of the drawbar. A new cab suspension option automatically adjusts to handle bumps.
Under the hood are two new engine and transmission options, depending on the model. The 7200R and 7215R are built with a new 6.8L PowerTech PSX engine, and the 7230R, 7260R, and 7280R feature a new 9.0L PowerTech PVX engine. Both engines meet Tier 4i emissions standards without the need for diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). A powershift or fully automatic infinitely variable transmission (IVT) option reduces or eliminates the need to shift and keeps rpm low to save on fuel.
The new tractors have a 23% greater hitch-lift capacity compared to their large-frame 7030 series predecessors and have an optional integrated front hitch and PTO to operate front-driven equipment such as triple-mounted mower conditioners, snowblowers, and other attachments. For rear-driven equipment, a new three-speed economy PTO with power-assist PTO shifting is available as an option to save on fuel.
Other new features include up to six SCVs, options for larger tires, and the addition of right-hand steps for easy access to the right side of the tractor.
The five new models are offered in 2-wd, MFWD, or Triple Link Suspension Plus (TLS Plus) configurations. The base list price ranges from $168,419 to $219,641.00. Specific prices for each model can be found at www.JohnDeere.com under the build your own section.
The tractors will be available at dealerships this month. For more information, contact your local John Deere dealer or visit www.JohnDeere.com.
