DuPont’s Pioneer Hi-Bred just received approval to market its latest single-bag corn product for corn borer and corn rootworm protection. Optimum AcreMax XTreme will be sold for the 2013 season and contains the full refuge requirement in the bag for above- and below-ground insect protection in corn.

Last year, Pioneer introduced the AcreMax Xtra corn product that offered above- and below-ground insect protection in corn. While a single-bag refuge product, it contained only one trait for below-ground insects. AcreMax XTreme contains two traits for additional effectiveness and trait durability.

The AcreMax XTreme contains 95% of a Pioneer hybrid with Herculex Xtra insect protection. It is combined with YieldGard corn borer protection and the Agrisure RW trait along with 5% of a similar non-Bt hybrid with herbicide tolerance to meet refuge requirements. The new AcreMax XTreme also includes herbicide tolerance.

The product will be offered in many Pioneer hybrid platforms next year. This year, the company will plant it in its intensively managed plots in North America to select the best products for different environments. Customers will be able to see the new product in these plots.
