Pioneer unveils drought-tolerant hybrids

Producers will have 8 new drought-tolerant hybrids available across five genetic platforms from Pioneer for 2011. The new hybrids, which will be marketed under the Optimum AQUAmax brand name (previously announced as Drought Tolerant 1 hybrids) , contain a collection of native corn traits that improve water access and utilization, and the company says the hybrids showed a 5 percent yield advantage, on average, over leading commercially available competitor and other Pioneer brand hybrids....More

While I was seated at the grill one August evening, my phone rang. It was a guy who lives about 30 miles away. In early June that year, he had stopped by to perform a service for me. He does fertility tests on bulls and also custom-collects semen from them for A.I. We had one bull checked and collected that day. Since it was time to breed my heifers that week, I needed the product this guy had collected back in June. He gets the job done, then he takes the semen back to his place to run it through the lab, package it and store it in his liquid nitrogen tanks....More

Syngenta-Pioneer license, Novozymes purchase of EMD Crop BioScience 17

Cooperation and acquisitions continue in the seed and crop protection business. Syngenta and DuPont just signed a corn rootworm trait licensing agreement. And Novozymes purchased the Crop BioScience business from Merck KGaA. These two events are part of a growing business model that involves competitors cooperating. Syngenta-Pioneer Syngenta has agreed to license its Agrisure corn rootworm trait to DuPont’s Pioneer Hi-Bred. This deal could be worth over $400 million in cumulative payments, according to a news release from both companies....More
