Welding filter
The Focus AH-240 is a new solar-powered, auto-darkening welding filter from Nassau International. It requires no batteries, switches or adjustments. Normally at shade 3, the filter automatically darkens to shades 10, 11, or 12 as specified by the user when an arc is struck. The filter measures 2 x 4 1/4in. and is just 3/16 in. thick. You can just pop out the existing filter in your helmet and install the Focus AH-240 in its place. Price: $85. Contact Nassau International Inc., Dept. FIN, 24 S. Welding helmet
Nassau International also introduces the Focus SZ-2.0A solar-powered, auto-darkening welding helmet. The helmet, when darkened, varies between shades 9 to 13 and can be used in virtually all arc welding and plasma cutting environments. It darkens in 1/20,000 of a second and provides UV/IR protection. When the arc is extinguished, the helmet returns to shade 4 in .25 to .8 sec., depending on the setting. The viewing window of the helmet is 3.86 x 1.5 in. The cassette has both inside and outside protection plates and is .35 in. thick. Two lithium batteries are built in to the helmet as a power backup. Welding lens
The Speedglas 9000Xi auto-darkening welding lens from Hornell is designed for TIG inverter welding technology. When in high-sensitivity mode, the lens can detect the extremely steady (flat frequency) arc produced by new TIG inverters. The high-sensitivity mode is also helpful when arcs are partially obscured by a pipe or tube or by the welder’s hands. The company claims that the lens has been tested and proven effective at settings as low as 1 amp. The 9000Xi changes from a shade 3 to shades 9 to 13, depending on the settings. The viewing area of the lens measures 4.09 x 2.13 in. Price: $400 for lens, or $430 for lens and helmet. Contact Hornell Inc., Dept.
