McCormick comeback

The McCormick nameplate, primarily associated with collectible antique tractors, may one day soon grace new tractors at Case dealerships around the world. Because of a European Union requirement, Case had to sell some of its production facilities to complete its merger with New Holland. Case sold certain technical, design, manufacturing and commercial rights to McCormick tractors, as well as a Case-IH factory in Doncaster, England, to Italian tractor manufacturer Landini SpA. Landini plans to use that acquisition to bring McCormick Tractors International Ltd. back as a global tractor manufacturer in its own right.
It’s yet to be seen whether new McCormick tractors will make it to American shores. One hurdle may be to persuade dealers to sell McCormick CX and MC (formerly MX-C) tractors, which McCormick now owns. The factory currently builds these tractors for Case in Case colors for sale outside of Europe. McCormick has rights of access to existing Case dealers to sell the 50- to 100-hp CX and MC tractors. Further up the power scale, McCormick also plans to build its own 100- to 170-hp Maxxum derivative. The company has yet to determine pricing and distribution of its new Macs.
