Hewlett-Packard's new HP TouchSmart PC stakes a claim as the first all-in-one PC based on Microsoft's new Windows Vista operating system. Although the computer is designed to be operated via the touch screen with a finger or stylus, it also can use the included keyboard and mouse.

The company is positioning the computer as a family's central device to access information, communication, television, radio, music and other entertainment. Of course, it also has traditional computing capabilities. A new user interface includes a family calendar, photo management software and a sticky notes system that might replace notes on the refrigerator.

The computer has a built-in, 19-in., adjustable high-definition display, a remote control and personal video recorder. An AMD dual-core chip drives the computer, which includes a 320-gigabyte hard drive and a DVD burner.
