Windrowers get GPS steering

Custom GPS AutoSteer kits from AutoFarm are now available for MacDon-built M and 9000 series self-propelled windrower tractors. The kits, which have been custom designed for a factory-installed look, have been fully integrated into the swathers’ hydraulic systems to provide accurate, repeatable hands-free steering at speeds up to 11 mph. The only physical components in the cab are a color touch-screen display and a remote-engage button mounted on the speed stick, which will be standard on 2009 models and optional on earlier models. The company says that, in addition to reducing operator fatigue, the new GPS steering system will produce more uniform windrows, resulting in more predictable drying and faster baling, chopping or combining.

The suggested retail price for a WAAS/OmniStar-capable AutoSteer system plus an installation kit is $13,990. For more information, contact AutoFarm, 45700 Northport Loop East, Fremont, CA 94538, 510/933-4800, www.gpsfarm.com.
