New large grain carts handle corn, soybean harvest efficiently

Grain carts with capacities over 1,000 bu. are in high demand this year to match the growing size of combines and grain trailers. Carts of this size can fill a semitrailer in a single dump so neither the combine that harvests the grain nor the semitrailer that hauls it to market have to wait for the cart to unload.

Three factors are driving the demand. First is genetically altered seed, which is producing yields that are higher than the average yields of many of the older seed hybrids.

A second factor is bigger combines with wider cutting platforms that can harvest more grain than combines in lower class sizes.

Third is larger farm sizes combined with unseasonably wet weather. Farmers are hard pressed for time to get the crop cut before the kernels dry out.

All of these factors are pushing more grain through the transom at harvest, requiring bigger carts with bigger augers to handle the extra grain.
