Meter indicates plant health

A New “point-and-shoot” meter will help growers determine if crops need more nitrogen. The new FieldScout CM 1000 NDVI meter will instantly measure light absorption and reflectance, which in turn indicate if a plant is healthy or not. A healthy plant has plenty of chlorophyll to drive photosynthesis and therefore absorbs red light. When a plant is under stress, it reflects more red light because of reduced chlorophyll absorption. The FieldScout from Spectrum Technologies measures a plant's light reflection and will score the plant on the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). The NDVI value shows the health of the plant, and growers can use it to determine if it is low in nitrogen.

The FieldScout CM 1000 NDVI meter retails for $2,490. Contact Spectrum Technologies, Dept. FIN, 12360 S. Industrial Dr. East, Plainfield, IL 60585, 800/248-8873, visit www/specmeters.com or www.freeproductinfo.net/fin, or circle 151.
