Large-volume tires

Michelin wants you to consider large-volume tires for your high-horsepower tractor. “Large-volume tires have two main benefits,” says Kevin Lutz, technical manager for Michelin North American Agricultural Tires. “First, they reduce air pressure, which means a reduction in soil compaction, which means greater yields. Second, you'll have greater productivity when pulling a primary tillage implement because you'll have a greater footprint and get better traction.”

Michelin claims its XM108 radials are the most immediate and cost-effective option for moving existing tractors up to larger-volume tires. The XM108 delivers a footprint that is 20% larger than that of a standard-profile tire and can be used on standard rims. The company says the tires provide a broad, flat tread and oversized footprint that helps increase traction, reduce wheel slip and improve production efficiency and fuel economy.

Lutz emphasizes that the tires can be used on combines, too. “The XM108 tires increase flotation during a wet harvest,” he says.
