Leveling the field

Raven Industries

Raven's baseline AutoBoom PowerGlide system uses boom-end gauge wheels to signal hydraulics to raise the boom. The system, which is adjusted manually, is designed primarily for preplant applications. It has a suggested retail price of $3,000.

The PowerGlide Plus system adds CANbus wiring and a controller interface to the basic system. It has a suggested retail price of $4,000, plus $875 for a controller.

The AutoBoom UltraGlide ultrasonic sensor system is designed for preplant and in-crop applications. Available in CANbus or standard configurations, it compensates for varying machine hydraulic pressure to ensure a constant, leveled height. Controller software monitors and learns hydraulic performance of the sprayer. The standard configuration uses one sensor per side. Two sensors per side are recommended for 120-ft. booms. The suggested retail price for a standard configuration is $5,800. The system interfaces with various Raven and ISOBUS-compliant controllers. A stand-alone controller costs $875, if needed.

The X20 Ultra Sonic Boom Leveler incorporates both ultrasonic sensors (two per side) and a gyroscope system to keep the boom at the right height. By incorporating a gyroscope, the system is able to monitor sprayer roll, which allows software to anticipate needed boom height changes and begin making them immediately. Boom center section height is automatically adjusted as the spray tank empties. The suggested retail price ranges from $6,570 to $9,900, depending on the vehicle platform and whether additional hydraulics are needed.

Kits currently are available for Rogator, Miller Nitro and some trailer sprayer models. Kits for additional sprayer models will be available by the 2008 spraying season. The Boom Leveler is controlled by the Topcon X20 touch-screen controller, which has a suggested retail price of $5,665.
