Balance concerns >By Business of Buying

Sep 1, 1999 12:00 PM

Rhone-Poulenc's new corn herbicide Balance saw a successful launch year: It was applied to 3_1/2 to 4 million acres in 1999. Unfortunately, 9 to 10 percent of those acres showed some degree of crop injury, due to a variety of reasons ranging from cool, wet weather to soil texture to under- or overapplication. Rob Schrick, market manager for Rhone-Poulenc, says the company is handling every farmer concern on a case-by-case basis. Most injury, according to Schrick, occurred in field pockets where the active ingredient was not metabolized within the corn plant as quickly as usual due to various factors. Look for new label recommendations this fall.
