Low-disturbance seeding

A new drill from Bourgault Industries will plant seed and apply fertilizer in fields and pastures that require little disturbance. The 5730 Air Coulter Drill rides over rocks and roots rather than ripping them out of the soil. Its 20-in. disc coulters slice through residue and produce a uniform seed placement. The fixed-height coulters provide 500 lbs. of initial trip load and are mounted on 4- × 3-in. uprights. Each packer provides 200 lbs. of pressure and is partially offset from the furrow for closing purposes. With the sod flap closed, seed, fertilizer and moisture are sealed in. Bourgault also introduces the 1650 round bale mover that features a double row design to hold up to 16 5-ft. round bales. Its frame will handle up to 2,500 lbs. A walking and oscillating axle design distributes the load to all the wheels, providing a smooth ride. Angled forks are designed to rotate the bales in the correct position for loading on either side of the mover. The bale forks are adjustable to match the size of the bales, and the forks lift the bale into position where it is moved by a chain and paddle system. The new bale mover retails for $16,500. Rebounder redesigned

Schaffert has redesigned the Rebounder. It now has an area behind the tab for a wider band of fertilizer or insecticide in the furrow. The new design allows farmers to switch application methods without having to remove the Rebounder from the planter.
