Bayer CropScience completes acquisition of Prophyta GmbH

Bayer CropScience announced today the completion of its purchase of Prophyta GmbH, a leading supplier of microbial crop protection products headquartered in Malchow on the island of Poel in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. The acquisition includes Prophyta´s product portfolio, R&D laboratories, production and formulation facilities.

For Bayer CropScience, this acquisition is an important investment decision towards building a leading biologics technology platform. "Prophyta´s patented technology platform significantly boosts Bayer CropScience´s ability to offer growers worldwide novel technology and complete agricultural solutions," said Dr. Rüdiger Scheitza, head of strategy & business management, Bayer CropScience.

Prophyta, founded in 1992, provides customers well-established products primarily based on biological control agents. Its nematicide BioAct is available in 10 countries. Prophyta has developed a unique solid-state fermentation technology for production and bioprocess development of filamentous fungi.
