80% of corn planting underway in NW Ohio

Northwest Ohio farmer Daryl Bridenbaugh gives an update on good corn planting progress in his area.

We had five days of nice weather for corn planting so far. We are 80% done with our corn and that seems to be pretty typical for other farmers in my area. I would say 15% of the soybeans have been planted in my area. Near Napoleon, Ohio there is some corn up. Frost is forecast for tonight so we are not sure how that will play out. Frost would also stunt or kill the commercial tomatoes that are planted.

Good to hear things are looking up, Daryl. I'm originally from the Archbold area, but now live in Indiana. Out here, there's no corn up anywhere, and we had a low of 29 on May 13. Not looking good for all of the apple orchards here either, which is sad because they had such bad year in 2012. -Abby
