Accessories your ATV

Aug 30, 2005 3:15 PM, From Yamaha News Bureau

Having the right ATV or Side-by-Side (SxS) vehicle for your needs around the farm/field is important. And, it’s just as important to have the right accessories to get the job done. There are accessories available to suit practically every application. In addition, many ATV manufacturers also make accessories, which ensure a perfect fit of accessory to machine.

If you find yourself needing to add a plow kit or winch assembly for work around your property (without having to pull out the large equipment), there are several things to know about outfitting your ATV or SxS with the right accessories. Having the right equipment will effect the way it and your vehicle perform.

Below are tips on selecting the right accessory for your ATV or SxS in order to make your daily farming duties easier:

Plowing Ahead - For the smaller areas on your farm where the large equipment maybe can’t maneuver or where a tractor just doesn’t make sense, a plow kit for your ATV can come in handy. Whether its snow, dirt or gravel, plow systems like Yamaha’s Plow Kit by Warn gives you the same feel and benefits of a full-size plow with the convenience and maneuverability of an ATV or SxS. A motorized plow actuator can also be added to make it more user-friendly.

When choosing a plowing system, make sure it is the best tool or accessory for the job. The Yamaha Plow Kit by Warn is currently available for the Grizzly 660. Additional plow assemblies are also available for several other models including the Yamaha Kodiak, Big Bear and Bruin 350.

Winch One? - Be sure when adding a winch assembly or kit that it fits the unit you own, and that it is the correct model for your anticipated needs. The winch should have the load limit requirements and carry the length of cable that is best suited for your vehicle and job. The Yamaha Winch Kit by Warn, which is available on all Yamaha utility ATVs including the Grizzly 660, Kodiak 450 and Bruin 350 models, has a powerful 2,500 load limit. The kit also features a freewheeling clutch, a handlebar mini-rocker switch, six-gauge wiring, 50-foot steel cable, hook and strap and an ignition-activated wiring system.

“Pulling items with your winch can be tricky and can take some practice,” says Patrick Biolsi, Yamaha factory technician and test rider. “It’s also important to be in the proper gear and know how big the load is that you are pulling.”

Protecting Your ATV - ATVs and SxS units are an investment in your livelihood. There are certain bolt-on accessories that will help sustain the life of your unit and reduce the chance or need for repair.

Front and rear A-Arm skid and bash plates are a great way to help protect your vehicle against the environment in which it operates daily. The plates are designed to protect the front suspension and the undercarriage of your unit from debris and terrain. Additionally, front brush guards and grab bar shields also protect your machine from the elements, not to mention daily wear and tear.

It’s also a good idea to keep your ATV or SxS covered when it’s not being used, especially for long periods of time. Storage covers protect your unit from the various winter and summer elements. Covers are available for every unit in the Yamaha line-up.

Carry More - Carrying more cargo on your ATV has been a challenge in the past. Now you can install rack extensions to both the front and the rear of your ATV to increase your carrying capacity and also help keep your load in place while riding.

Along with your extended racks you can add storage space with rack bags for either the front or rear of your vehicle. Yamaha-designed rack bags give owners durable and protected storage space for tools or personal items. Rack bags are available to fit all Yamaha utility models.
